The Royal Carthusian Monastery
The Royal Carthusian Monastery was built under the regency of Marie-Christine of France, widow of Vittorio Amedeo I of Savoy. In 1641 Carthusian monks were invited to enter the new mona-stery; they lived there up to 1802 when Napoleon sent them away. In 1816, after the reestablishment of Savoy Kings, Carthusian monks came back and stayed up to 1853 when this place became the Royal Lunatic Asylum.
